Guidry News Service, May 27, 2009: UTMB’s Oma Morey [Class of 1969] has written a play “The Long Journey Home: Caring for a Loved one with Dementia,” that will be performed on June 5 at Levin Hall. “I believe the play will touch anyone who has ever taken care of, known someone that’s taken care of, or anticipates taking care of someone with dementia. "My goal was to write a play that would both entertain and inform health-care students and professionals about the struggles these caregivers experience when they watch their love ones disappear in front of their eyes,” Morey said.
Performances are slated for June 5-6 and June 12-13, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. at Levin Hall Main Auditorium, UTMB, 1006 Market Street, Galveston , TX. Call 409-772-3235, weekdays for information or 409-742-0690, weekends. Admission is free.
February 11, 2009: Tile expert, author, and 1958 Jefferson graduate, Susan Toomey Frost, attended the Thomas Jefferson High School Historical Preservation Society meeting and gave the Board a short presentation about the Jefferson tiles that are a part her new book due out in September 2009. The book entitled, "Colors in Clay," includes six pages of images and discussion about some of the tiles that adorn our school. She even showed the board original drawings that eventually became the tiles on the "Pan American Table" that is now in the school library. After seeing drafts of her book's pages, several board members were ready to buy a copy; we'll have to wait, but we'll also be first in line to get a copy. Susan's website is www.susanfrost.org. A visit will be well worth your time.
November 13, 2008: The Wall of Fame, housing pictures of 16 distinguished Jefferson alumni was officially instituted today in the Student Union Building/Cafeteria trophy case. [ see online photo gallery ]
TJHS.com extends a mighty Mustang"THANKS" to Ron Garcia for keeping the Jefferson spirit alive with his creations. Jefferson Band Boosters invited all Mustang Band alumni to join them in a fundraiser and to play along with this year's band during the halftime of the Jefferson/Fox Tech game on Thursday October 30, 2008 at 7:00 pm at the "rockpile" (Alamo Stadium). Watch Ron Garcia's video of the event.

The 1960 Monticello came out in print as usual, but there was a surprise that came along with it. The Sights of '60 was the yearbook's theme. "Well, what about the sounds?" someone asked at an editorial meeting. The Monticello supplied the sights. This recording, sent to TJHS.com by an alum, shared the sounds of the year. You'll be struck by the sound bites of the school song played by the band, the fight song at a pep rally, the archaic recording, and the unabashed use of prayer and mention of God. This is truly a time capsule treasure. [ listen ]
